asked the local butcher if he had a knife he would like to sharpen? He
gave me an old knife that they did not use any more and said "I think
the temper has gone from the blade" I took the knife back next day and
he inspected it and said what a good edge it had but that he doubted
it would last long due to the lack of temper.
Some weeks later I returned to the shop to buy some meat and asked
about the knife. The butcher said "It has kept its edge really well and
it is now a good knife".
"Got back from a short holiday yesterday to find my knife returned,
sharpened by you. A real improvement on the edge that I sent you.
But then my daughter picked it up and looked at it and said "wow,
that's so sharp it's scary".
"Thanks very much, Bruce. The blades are now much sharper than when they were new.
Planed a batch of European oak this afternoon - the finish was like silk.
